Do you feel the need to get away to the mountains and exert a little pent-up energy? Would you like to help send low-income children to camp this summer?

You can do both on Saturday, June 6, 2009 by participating in The 5th Annual Salvation Army 10K/5K Trail Run at Camp Mt. Crags and Camp Gilmore in the Malibu Mountains.

Image There is something for everyone to enjoy from 8:00am to 12:00pm: a challenging 10K and 5K Run for experienced athletes, and a less challenging 5K Fitness Walk for individuals and families. There will also be a complimentary brunch taking place after the run, and an Expo going on throughout the day. The start and finish lines are located within the campgrounds, and the run/walk will traverse along a scenic road in the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains. The course alternates between moderate and challenging. During the closing Awards Ceremony Top Runners from the 5K & 10K will be acknowledged. Top Fundraisers and Teams will also be rewarded with some great PRIZES!

Refreshments and entertainment will be provided, and all registered participants and volunteers will receive a free t-shirt. We will also be raffling off a brand new pair of Trail Running shoes. And make sure to keep an eye out for the Adidas Mobile Tour Vehicle for some additional giveaways!

Nestled among old oaks and evergreens, The Salvation Army Camp Mt. Crags and Camp Gilmore offer some 2,000 youngsters, ages 7 to 16, recreational and educational activities in a safe and enriching Christian environment. Campers can participate in a variety of activities including basketball, volleyball, swimming, soccer, ropes course, rock climbing wall, hiking, arts and crafts, nature study, drama, music and puppetry. All funds raised by this event directly benefit low-income and at-risk youth, who otherwise could not afford a week at summer camp. For some, this is the only break they’ll get from the pressures of inner-city life.

The cost of a week at camp is $330 per child. Since many of our target population can only afford to pay $25 or less, there is a great need to raise scholarship funds. The objective of this event is to raise funds to provide full scholarships for 200 children and youth, or partially pay for up to 300. Please help us make a difference in the lives of less-fortunate children in our community.
